SAN DIEGO, CA (May 19, 2014) – The Progressive® Insurance San Diego International Boat Show®, in partnership with the California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA), San Diego Superyacht Association, and Port of San Diego, cruises into Harbor Island June 19-22, 2014 for four days of fun on the water and deals on the newest boats and marine accessories. As San Diego’s biggest summer boating event, the annual boat show provides attendees an all-access pass to discover the boating lifestyle and a chance to shop more than 150 vessels, from entry-level family cruisers and personal watercraft to luxury motor and sailing yachts. And new for 2014, there’s an expanded area of sport fishing boats and accessories and more superyachts for visitors to browse, board and buy.
Not in the market to a buy a boat? The boat show offers an ideal setting to see and experience everything that boating has to offer, with activities and education for all ages and skill levels, including a chance to Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) and take a variety of boating courses on-land or in-water.
2014 Progressive Insurance San Diego International Boat Show highlights:
Take exercise to the water at Try It Cove: Sponsored by The Waterman’s Depot, Try It Cove challenges attendees to find out firsthand why paddle sports are all the rage with a variety of free opportunities to get on the water, including Stand Up Paddling (SUP), kayaking and more. Visitors are encouraged to bring their bathing suits; life jackets and changing room are provided.
Learn to SCUBA: At the ‘Be a Diver Pool,’ dive into an underwater world in the comfort of a heated pool. Anyone ages 10 and older can learn how to scuba dive with a certified instructor – all one needs is a swimsuit to participate. The Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) provides scuba gear, changing rooms and hair dryers. Participants can also get a photo taken underwater as a fun keepsake.
Free sailing lesson aboard the Sailing Simulator, featured at the America’s Cup: Experience how a sailboat reacts to wind and waves, and learn how to use the tiller with the help of an ASA certified instructor. Designed and built by a nuclear physicist, the sailing simulator recreates the actual movement of a boat under sail so participants can get a feel for the water, without getting wet. It’s a unique training platform for sailors of all ages.
Tastes & sounds of summer: Visit the new floating Tiki Bar by Fiddler’s Green, Anchors & Ales Beer Garden or popular food trucks, plus a BBQ hosted by the Rotary Club La Mesa to enjoy libations and local cuisine favorites while listening to island/boat music from a steel drum band.
Climb aboard a Vietnam War boat: Presented by the San Diego Maritime Museum, visitors can board and tour one of the historic PCF 816 Swift Boats used during the Vietnam War, used to disrupt seaborne supplies from getting to the enemy, as well as to provide gunfire support and troop evacuation. All boat show attendees that board the vessel will receive a free ticket to visit the “San Salvador” courtesy of the San Diego Maritime Museum.
Nautical Activities for the Kids: While mom and dad are shopping for the new family boat, little skippers can enjoy the Kids’ Zone, drawing their favorite nautical picture to take home as a souvenir, enjoy activities at Try It Cove and play bag “bait” toss at the Progressive Insurance booth for prizes.
DIY clinics for the hand’s on boater: Back again this year is the Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center, a garage-like setting, to learn how to keep that boat in tip-top shape. Check the website for registration details and seminar schedules.
Discover Boating’s Hands-On Skills Training power boating and sailing lessons feature 60-to 90-minute on-water skills-building clinics, with instruction on a variety power boating and sailing topics**. And for a more in-depth experience, there are several advanced 3 ½-hour, underway courses scheduled, including an Introduction to Cruising Catamarans.
Dozens of complimentary seminars are held daily on the shore featuring a new series on exploring south of the border, blue water cruising, intro to sailing and more.
**Advance registration for on-water clinics is highly recommended; fee for each on-water Discover Boating clinic includes complimentary boat show admission for the day; participants must be at least 18 years of age.

I have never been to the San Diego Boat Show, afraid it will add another item to my Hubby’s wish list. But if we do go, there are many fun things to include like eating at Seaport village, watching the airplanes land at the airport or just a stroll down Harbor Dr.

I would love to try my hand at paddleboarding, and spend a little kid-free time drooling over dreamboats with my hubby!
