Today I remember what it was like to be that little girl sitting in the orthodontist, getting that shiny new and silvery smile glued onto my teeth. Yep, today my oldest daughter got braces! Funny though because when I remember back, I cried. Tears flowed as I peered into the mirror and saw my new face full of metal parts! Nope, not this time, my little girl is beaming, yes BEAMING with joy! She sprang from bed this morning, skipping into the kitchen and parading to her brother that “Today, I get my braces on”! Strange, apparently now, braces are “cool”. Everyone wants braces. She quickly shared that all her friends are begging their parents for their own set of shiny metal parts. It’s funny how times have changed. Thankfully, I lucked out on this one, no heart-to-heart chat about how it will be better in the long run, your teeth will be straight and so on and so forth. Frankly, I am the “Best Mom Ever” today, so I will just leave it at that! 🙂
Thinking about my childhood, thinking about the memories and traditions we create with our children/family each and everyday, some with intention, some just by nature. I want to know what your most favorite traditions or routines are in your house? For example, we recently started doing our “Peaks and Pits” at the dinner table. My kids love this. So each night after we say the blessing (we take turns), then we go around the table and each family member shares the “peak” of their day and then the “pit” of their day. It’s great because it gives each of us an opportunity to highlight our day while sharing what seemed to matter most to us for the day, both the good and the bad. Our kids sometimes laugh and sometimes its comical what they deem to share but none-the-less, it’s a fun time of sharing and slows each of us down after a busy day of work and school.
I love opportunities like this! Share with me what your family does to celebrate the day or how you like to create new family traditions…
