Christmas Tea 2014~ Hotel Del Coronado

As many of you may know I have been hosting Christmas Tea Parties every year since back in August of 1998. The first tea party was my very own “Bridal Tea Party” that my future mother-in-law at the time, hosted for me during the preparations for my wedding later that year! From this tea on, I was hooked, and ever since I have been hosting these annual friendship and Christmas Tea’s every year since.

This year was a special year for our group, we celebrated our 16th annual tea at the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado! The site was breathtaking. From towering and sparkling Christmas trees to the beautiful lights that twinkled throughout the hotel. The theme was “Glitz & Glam” and we sure sparkled up the evening!

We enjoyed fabulous savories and sweets including bubbling champagne and sparkling apple cider!

This year we added a fun tea cup and loose tea exchange. The teacups were beautiful and each unique in their own right.

I am thankful for these friendships that have surrounded me all throughout the years and the opportunity each year to ring in the new coming year with such fabulous ladies.

Until next year, cheers to my LTP gang, this year’s tea is one I will never forget!

Lindsay’s Tea Party had an exquisite “Afternoon Tea” with our friends at the beautiful Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa!

You know how we love to try new tea places, and this Resort has instantly become one of our favorites! Let us tell you why…

First, you arrive into a luxurious lobby with the welcoming sounds of a pianist playing beautiful sounding and soothing music as it echos through the halls. You then make your way over to the quiet Library located in the resort and are given a menu of teas like the one shown below…. to choose your first pot of tea.

LOOSE LEAF TEAS
BLACK TEA
BRAZILIAN FRUIT
This fragrant black tea blend, scented with chunks of
Maracuya passion fruit hailing from Brazil, is smooth and
nicely balanced with a slight sweetness and delicate spice.
CHOCOLATE ORANGE TRUFFLE
Madagascar vanilla, chocolate cacao nibs and orange peels
blend with Ceylon and China black tea leaves to impart a
full-bodied intriguing blend with dessert-like qualities.
EARL GREY ORGANIC
High-grown Ceylon and China black teas are combined with
the smoky citrus notes of bergamot fruit. An elegant,
balanced and full-flavored classic cup.
PEAR CARAMEL
Washington state pears have been blended with Ceylon and
China black teas and a touch of vanilla and sweet caramel.
The perfect after-dinner dessert tea or afternoon treats.
WHITE & GREEN TEA
SILVER JASMINE
The tender new buds, covered with silver-white hairs, are
picked in Fujian Province on only two days a year and
processed entirely by hand. Tossed with superior Jasmine
flowers, this rare tea gives forth a sweet rounded infusion
that is smooth and rich.
GREEN TEA PASSION
Enjoy a fragrant blend of delicate green teas from Japan,
China and Taiwan, accented by tropical fruits, including
guava, pineapple and strawberry. Healthy, soothing and
refreshing.
HERBAL & FRUIT BLENDED TEA
CAFFEINE-FREE
AFRICAN AMBER ORGANIC
The African rooibos or red bush makes a vivid and smooth
cup blended with hibiscus and exotic fruits of the African
continent. Rich in antioxidants, it promotes calm and
relaxation. Perfect for enhancing a peaceful state of mind.
CHAMOMILE CITRONTM
A unique mélange of Egyptian chamomile, citrus slices,
lemongrass, rose hips, hibiscus, and mint. Delicately fruity
and soothing, as well as an excellent source of Vitamin C.
WILD BLOSSOMS & BERRIES
Blackberry and black currant, infused with lemongrass,
hibiscus, chamomile, mint, licorice root, and spices produce
a hearty, memorable refreshment.

LTP chose the Pear Caramel Tea (a black flavored tea) that had an amazing caramel aroma, and as you lifting your tea cup to your mouth to drink, it gave you the sense and smell of a dessert in liquid form. My daughter chose the Chocolate Orange Truffle Tea and she likened it to a yummy hot cocoa flavor, she drank the entire pot and ordered a second pot!

The finger sandwiches and scones were divine and we enjoyed all without leaving a crumb behind. Refills were plentiful on our teas and each arrived piping hot and ready to be strained. Sugar and creamer also available.

First, the Park Hyatt Aviara is going to be offering a very special Teddy Bear Tea to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00AM – 12:30PM for the first three weekends in December! Teddy Bear Tea is $25++ for children and $42++ for adults. Children are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to donate to Ronald McDonald’s House. During Teddy Bear Tea, there is a very special appearance by the Peppermint Princess who reads a story to all the children. The Grand Del Mar Tea Review

Lindsay’s Tea Party had an exquisite afternoon tea at The Grand Del Mar. Upon arrival the polite staff immediately parked our car through the valet services. After locating the Library we entered a beautiful room filled with books and quaint antique chairs, crisp linens and stunning wood moulding throughout the ceilings and walls.

A waitress quickly seated us and offered us a variety of teas to choose from. There was also the option to stop and sniff any of the nicely labeled jars filled with the loose teas before deciding upon which one to begin with.

We chose the traditional English Breakfast and the Ambrosia (with coconut).

~White Ambrosia~

Rarest Pai Mu Tan white tea is plucked in early spring from a special varietal

tea bush called “chaicha”. Blended with fragrant Madagascar vanilla and tropical

tease of island coconut. Delicate, refreshing.

Both teas were fabulous tasting and piping hot served with honey, sugar and creme.

Then the first of the 3 tea courses arrived.

First course included superb tea sandwiches a mixed variety including salmon and cream, cucumber cheese, egg salad and cheese and ham. Then came warm and fresh scones. 2 types for each of us. A plain scone and a cranberry, served with lemon curd, freshly made house preserves and the traditional Devonshire cream.

Next came course 3, a lovely array of pastries, with chocolates, fruits, tarts and more! All were superb and it would be hard to pick my favorite. We also enjoyed a chilled flute of bubbly champagne which finished off the tea nicely. Information on The Grand Del Mar Afternoon Tea Offering:

My favorite spots for Tea in SD!

Lindsay’s Tea Party finds any excuse to attend a local tea party and thankfully San Diego has a variety of tea rooms now to choose from!

My daughters’ both love to have afternoon tea and my son pretends not to like it but secretly loves English scones and freshly made devonshire cream!

In no particular order below is a list of our personal favorite tea rooms throughout San Diego. LTP has tried many and these are the cream of the crop! Some are better for Mommies and friends, some are fabulous for children as well. Those with an * are the one’s I feel most comfortable in with my children in tow.

It’s always fun to try a new tea room and branch out a bit. Some are more traditional (proper) others more casual in both attire and decor. Here at LTP, we personally love to see folks dressed up with hats and gloves and making the most of their tea parties! Sit back, have a good cuppa and enjoy the respite!

Lindsay’s Tea Party loves tea parties! Recently, LTP checked out The Grand Tea Room in Escondido. What a lovely experience it was! And if you read on and decide to go for yourself, just mention Lindsay’s Tea Party for a $5 dollar discount during the ENTIRE month of June!!

From the moment you walk in, you sense the feeling of British royalty or dining with the elite from Downton Abbey. Crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, bright white mouldings line the walls and waitresses wearing black clothing with crisp white aprons carrying beautiful English china cups and pots from table to table.

The mood is tranquil, the background is upbeat classical, the room is clean and organized yet still gives you a sense of warmth and comfort.

My dear friend, Suzanne, joined me for this tea experience. We arrived hungry and left more than full. The portions were plentiful and the courses were all quite good. We dressed up for the tea and they did have a variety of hats to wear upon arrival as well.
